Chain of Gold | Non-Spoiler Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐. 5 / 5

I’ve been waiting for this book for SO many years. Ever since I fell in love with the Infernal Devices, I just wanted MORE from Tessa, Will, and Jem. When I found out Cassandra would be writing a sequel series, I nearly died from excitement; and trust me, she didn’t disappoint. Chain of Gold was incredible. The characters, the plot, and the development were just as breathtaking as I had hoped.

One thing I admire about Cassandra’s writing is that she does a beautiful job of representing multiple cultures and LGBTQ. The shadowhunter series is unique because the plot, foreshadowing, and characters expand over different series, making the stories and the small references super exciting. Whenever a character I already love (or hate) shows up in this book, I’m constantly squealing in excitement.

I regret that I didn’t reread the Infernal Devices and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy before this. (She introduces some of the main characters of Chain of Gold in Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy). It took me a while to remember all the relationships from the Infernal Devices carried into Chain of Gold, and I ended up googling a chart 😂. I also wish that she wrote a little more about the characters from The Infernal Devices.

You don’t HAVE to read the Infernal Devices before this book, but I HIGHLY recommend it. From the first page onwards, I already had an emotional connection to every character in the book, and every twist took my breath away. Towards the end, I was crying so badly; I had puffy eyes all day. If you want the whole experience, I recommend reading the Infernal Devices before reading Chain of Gold.

For the people who love long series and intricate plots, start reading Cassandra’s books; you won’t be disappointed. If you’ve already read Chain of Gold and want to read my thoughts throughout reading the book, then click here. (warning, there are spoilers).
